11 years ago, 7 before Josiah was taken from this earth, my life fell apart. The writing had been on the wall for some time, but I just couldn’t see it. And then, BOOM! Everything came crashing down. I was so dejected. So humiliated and embarrassed at the mess that was made that I spoke to no one (well, that’s not quite true, but I certainly didn’t speak about it publicly!). Instead, I took a few minutes to breathe, okay maybe months, and then started scrambling around on the floor looking for the pieces. While I was down there, I found my way back to myself, back to the sober being that was born into this world and picked her up along with a bunch of new tools I could use to build something new while rejecting the ones that no longer served me. (I tell this story more in Remember the Birds, the book.)

And why did I intro with the paragraph above? Well, because during that time, I came up with a statement that still rings true, “Serendipity is my queen.” I believe deeply when she shows up, it’s an indication that I’m on the right path.

I had already prepared a blog post a couple of days ago, but posting it just didn’t feel right yet. So yesterday, I wrote what did feel right–about my anxiety, mental health and what can be achieved when we move forward one baby step at a time.

Wellllll…. the blog post was ready to go and then Serendipity showed up, a product of my willingness to show up and do things that scare me even when that little voice inside of me screams NO with all of her might.

Just shy of two months ago, I met with a writer friend, Molly Ovenden, who has the hugest heart and spends her days shining her bright light in this often dark world. We sat in conversation while using ‘On Water’ as our topic, a selection taken from her recently released book, Closer: Spiritual Reflections for Writers and Thinkers.

Yesterday, just as I was ready to hit “Publish” on my latest post ‘What to do. What to do…’ , an email came in from Molly letting me know that the conversation we had almost two months ago was ready and would be aired today. The conversation we had was right in alignment with everything I wrote about in that post, but went further while being held in the sacred space Molly carries with her wherever she goes.

I’m excited to share our conversation with all of you!!

After listening, if you care to do so, please leave a comment for Molly, give her a follow and share with your friends.

I’ll leave you with the note I got from Molly. What a blessing to show up, bare my soul and be embraced by another human.

“Thank you, thank you…I loved our conversation. I love how willing you were to share thoughtfully and deeply. I was tearing up as I listened and edited this episode. Your heart coming through your expressions about grief, courage, being strong and supple instead of rigid…will be a gift to so many people as they discover the podcast and this episode.” Molly Ovenden
