“Cenotes” Prayer Shawl ~
I am taking a break from my weaving (gasp!) for a yet-to-be-determined length of time, but have one last prayer shawl to offer. Working on my memoir (with the working title of Remember the Birds) is taking precedence over all else and there is little time outside of work and life – which seems to just keep churning and burning – eating up precious energy that I used to have an abundance of.
Writing is hard work! But then so is weaving…
I name all of my pieces and this one was inspired by the cenotes that Josiah and I swam in while in the Yucatan in Mexico. I am not sure if it was his Piscean birth or growing up alongside one of Northern California’s most pristine rivers, the Mattole, which winds it’s way north creating the eastern edge of the Lost Coast before emptying out into the Pacific Ocean just south of Cape Mendocino, the most western point in the Continental United States, but that boy loved the water and sought refuge there as it soothed both his nervous system and his soul.
“Cenotes” is handwoven on my 4-shaft Schact Baby Wolf loom which came to me from Ben’s late wife Tui. You can read about Ben in Remember the Birds as he is woven throughout the book, my ride-or-die white-haired confidant and best friend. The fabric is made from 100% Bamboo which has excellent drape and the ability to cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It is both eco-friendly and hypoallergenic.
These shawls take countless hours to plan, thread, weave and finally finish. This one measures 10″ wide by 68″ long and has 4 1/2″ spun tassels.
I am asking $225 USD plus shipping and can accept payment via PayPal or Venmo.
